Intent
It is our intent that PE inspires, engages and challenges all pupils at Manaccan School, and that our PE curriculum is accessible to all. We strive for all young people to have the opportunity to engage in a variety of sports and physical activities that will equip them with a range of opportunities to get active, enjoy sport, discover new and exciting talents and to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. We aim for all children to develop fundamental skills which will enable them to engage with a diverse range of sports so that every child has their chance to shine, potentially at a sport that they didn’t even know existed! We want all pupils to understand the importance of physical education and keeping healthy whilst developing lifelong skills such as teamwork, honesty, kindness resilience and perseverance. We want to equip our pupils to lead aspirational, healthy and active lives into adulthood.
Implementation
Our PE curriculum follows a scheme of work from Get Set 4 PE, which is closely aligned to the National Curriculum. This scheme includes a clear and sequenced progression of skills and knowledge, both within each year group and from one year to the next. The programme is designed with clear schemes of learning and offers support for teachers with their delivery with detailed plans. It also provides assessment opportunities and next steps.
Staff work closely alongside skilled specialists to deliver a high-quality PE provision. Swimming lessons are also provided by qualified swimming teachers to support children in being able to competently, confidently and proficiently swim a distance of at least 25 metres.
All children receive a minimum of two hours of curriculum PE per week.
